I read about self interest, which shouldn't be confused with desires. Desires are what people want to happen or achieve but interests are what need to happen or need to be achieved. Self interests are the interests that benefit one's life in some way.
Self interest is often confused with selfishness.
ReplyDeleteThe two are completely different. For example, when Michelle Obama was still in college, her father worked three or four jobs to support her and her brother. That is clearly not selfish behavior. He wanted to see his son and daughter succeed and was willing to do anything to help them without regard for himself. Which is a noble self interest.
